This year marks an important milestone for DAVIDSON, now celebrating more than thirty years of business dedicated to the finest British craftsmanship. Established in 1986 by Richard Davidson & Deirdre Davidson, the company has been founded on a fountain of knowledge and passion for design dating back to Richard’s early career as a young antiques dealer.
Before DAVIDSON was founded, Richard begun his career in the English antiques trade working alongside the leading dealers in central London.
As a young man he began working for Ayer & Company in Mayfair working for owner Nat Ayer, who at the time, was President of the British Antique Dealers’ Association. It was here that Richard really began to understand what true high quality is, being surrounded by wonderful pieces of 18th Century English furniture created by the master cabinet makers of the time.
Following his years at Ayer & Company, Richard pursued his already blossoming career with stints at both Christie’s and Sotheby’s where he was able to expand his, by now, expert knowledge of antique furniture.
In 1974, Richard made the decision to go out on his own working for as an antique dealer and spent the next twenty years searching England and Europe for wonderful furniture to meet the demands of his clients in London and New York. During this time he became the youngest ever person to be elected to the British Antique Dealers’ Association.
The company’s restoration workshops gave a huge insight into the construction and design principles of furniture and in 1992 he and his partner, Deirdre, launched a furniture design and manufacturing business, which was a resounding success and led a few years later to opening premises in Mount Street, Mayfair.
Managing Director, Alexandra Davidson, began her successful career at DAVIDSON over fifteen years ago after time spent at established PR agency Halpern Associates working alongside many of the world’s leading interiors and fashion brands.
Alexandra’s strong entrepreneurial vision combined with her passionate drive and focus has allowed her to successfully oversee and manage the smooth running of DAVIDSON. She injects passion and creativity into all her projects with her astute eye for design and personable approach.
Now with two young children, Alexandra manages to impressively juggle both professional and family life with uncompromising dedication, positivity and energy.
Company Director, Claudia Davidson, joined the family business in 2010 after graduating from the University of Bristol and internships working at Conde Nast and Quintessentially.
As Company Director and Head of PR & Marketing, Claudia’s conscientious approach in every aspect of her work has been an asset to the company and with her natural flair for PR, as well as the contacts she developed at Conde Nast, DAVIDSON’s name has soared into the limelight.
With an important involvement within our busy sales team, her professional approach and eagerness to please has been the driving force behind many inspiring projects from across the world.
